As a Kelowna and Vernon Maternity Photographer, I am always scanning my environment and surrounding areas for locations that I can use in upcoming sessions. I had had my eye on the beautiful Indigo Ridge Lavender Farm for quite some time. It’s bottom field was an incredible mix of tall grasses, purple flowers and the giant puff balls that I love so much.
My client Christina had come over for a consultation 8 weeks before her due date to choose gowns and we were super excited to use our chosen location a few nights later. Unfortunately the night of our planned session, Mother Nature decided to rain and we were forced to reschedule. Working as a nurse on the maternity ward who was still working, we had to work around Christina’s schedule and thankfully, for our next available date, the field was still looking magnificent. We were even more fortunate that the lavender was a few days away from being harvested and we were able to incorporate it too.
As you can see from the images, we were also, unexpectedly, able to incorporate one of Indigo Ridge’s gorgeous horses. She was in the upper pasture but decided to come under the electric fence to also get in on the action. After “kissing” Christina’s belly, she walked away happily to keep eating. Such a sweet moment!
A fews days after capturing this session, I got a text from Christina on Canada Day that her little man arrived, almost 7 weeks early! We had joked about how hot it was going to be to give birth in August so I guess her little man heard her and wanted to help his momma out!
I can’t wait to meet him at his newborn session.
Congratulations Christina and Travis!
