During this amazing maternity session with Lori & Chris, there was never a dull moment (weather wise) for this Vernon Maternity Photographer.
Lori and I have had this maternity session planned for months. We were actually going to do it back in February when there was snow on the ground, but Lori decided to wait a bit longer and opt for a less snowy background. Plus baby bump would be that much bigger. She booked makeup through Cheek to Chic, her hair through Chatters, and then we waited for the day to arrive.
The week prior to the session, Lori started looking at the weather report. It was calling for rain. She asked in the event of rain, what were our back up plans. Always the eternal optimist when it comes to weather, I mentioned a couple of out door areas where we would be covered and hoped for the best.
The morning of, I started to believe that maybe the weather reports were going to win out. It was looking pretty miserable. Lori and I started texting and decided that when her hair and makeup was done, we’d meet early and get the session started.
We met at the red gate at Kal Provincial Park and immediately started mentioning how lucky we were that the weather reports were wrong. It was sunny and warm! Should I bring the umbrellas just in case I asked, but we all agreed there was no need.
We started for the point, to get the beautiful views of Kal Lake, and were happy when we got there that there was some now beautiful cloud cover. The session was going great. Chris, who had told me he really didn’t like being in pictures, was having fun and enjoying himself and Lori was looking absolutely radiant.
As we were starting our long walk back, and happily capturing images, Chris brought to our attention that something was coming our way…and fast. We could smell it and almost hear this wall of water coming towards us. We all started giggling nervously that we better hurry up our pace when the hail hit.
All I can say is that I am SUPER thankful for incredibly awesome clients like Chris and Lori. Rather than getting mad that we were now wet and cold we all started laughing about it and even created some beautiful portraits of the less than dry Lori! I only wish I could looked as radiant as her wet. I looked more like a wet dog 🙂
Lori and Chris; thanks for entrusting me to capture this beautiful milestone in your lives. I can not wait to meet your little man next month. He now has a really cool weather story to go with his maternity pictures!
