Vernon Newborn Photographers

Kelowna and Vernon Newborn Photographers have been holding their collective breathes as to when they can start working again in their studios during this Covid 19 pandemic.

As a photographer in B.C., newborn photography has been put on hold for more than two months while B.C.’s medical officers tracked the rate of transmission. Thankfully, B.C. moved into Phase two last week and I was cleared by WorkSafe B.C. to be back in the studio.

As I have older parents that my family and I live next door to, we as a family have been in “quarantine mode” for the entire time. Apart from driving to pick up groceries (online grocery shopping has made COVID so much easier) we have left our house very little.

In making the decision to see my newborn families again (a decision I did not make lightly) I know if anyone has also been very careful about their outside world interactions, it is my families with new babies.

I know not all newborn photographers in B.C. are going back into the studio, but I feel that with the correct safety procedures in place, we can create beautiful newborn portraits again.

Although the sanitation and cleanliness of my studio and all props, blankets and outfits has always been a top priority, wearing a mask during work, took a little getting used to. I’ve also been asking all parents with young toddlers who are coming into the studio for newborn sessions, to prepare their child for the fact that I may look a little intimidating and different but I am certainly still smiling under neath my mask.

As well as having the correct sanitation procedures in place, I am also asking families to be patient in the re-scheduling of all newborns born during the last two months. I am making sure to schedule a minimum of two days in-between clients to further add a level of safety and so far, I have been able to accommodate everyone. Although my newborns may be pushing 7-8 weeks (and I would normally see my babies around two weeks of age) I have been able to get all my babes to pose and sleep-although not all of them fit in their first outfit of choice. An 8 week old baby is a lot bigger than a two week old!

Thanks for being patient and kind during these unprecedented times. I am so glad we are in the studio again creating newborn portraits!
