For this Vernon Photographer there is nothing more exciting than watching a couple get married and start a family.  I first met Tarla Rae and Curtis  for their beautiful wedding at Spirit Ridge in Osoyoos a number of years ago.  It was a beautiful day filled with laughter and love and knew I would stay in touch with this lovely couple.

Last year, Tarla Rae excitedly emailed me letting me know they were expecting.  And even more exciting, they were having twin boys!  We commemorated the exciting news with a beautiful maternity session.   Emmett and Rylan’s newborn session was almost a year ago and to commemorate their one year birthday, we wanted to get together to create these beautiful fall family portraits.  

We have been having a beautiful stretch of autumn weather, perfect for all the fall portrait sessions I have been creating and it was a perfect day to take them to one of my favourite fall spots.  A gorgeous grove of trees along the Gray Canal in Vernon.

No one year portrait session would be complete without a cake smash in the studio afterwards.

Tarla Rae was so cute.  She said this was only the second cake she has ever made.  The first she mad was while she and Curtis were dating.  It was his birthday and she wanted to do something special for him.

The boys weren’t sure what to make of the cake.  A few nibbles intrigued them but more often than not, one of them was interested in destroying the cake and then other wanted snuggles with mom or dad.  Of course mom and dad weren’t super keen on getting cake hugs but as parents we really don’t get to choose whether we are clean or not 😉  I’m sure a bath was in order as soon as they got home.

I can’t believe the boys are a year old.  I look forward to seeing them again in a few weeks for our magical Santa portraits
