As a Vernon Photographer who was born and raised in the beautiful Okanagan Valley, I don’t know if I was aware of the beautiful seasons we have here. My childhood memories hold on to the beautiful apple blossoms that happened every May in the orchard next to my house. I remember the warm summer nights where it seemed the sun went to bed after I did. I always looked forward to the beautiful fall leaves under my parents walnut trees so I could make big piles to jump in to.

Somewhere in those memories, the beautiful balsam root flowers appeared. Now as a photographer I look forward to these beautiful Okanagan Sunflowers showing up every Spring and so do my children. We always notice the hills surrounding Vernon turn a vibrant yellow where hundreds of thousands, if not millions, grow.

With my daughter about to turn 11, Springtime is such a beautiful time to capture her early portrait.

We hadn’t used the beautiful balsam roots before in her portraits and we were excited to see the fields of them up close. Thankfully she was up for climbing through the fields to get to this stunning location even though she was dressed for a ballroom 😉

A number of years ago, we bought a beautiful ballgown from Little Dreamers Couture and as Ava has grown, so has the beautifully adjustable dress. She hadn’t worn it for at least a year and a half and stepping into it, she immediately felt so excited for her session. It makes one feel SO fancy!

Ava, our kind hearted, baking addicted and super tenacious girl…don’t ever loose your spark. You are such a good friend to those around you and always so quick to make others feel welcomed. Keep dancing wherever you go. We love you!!!! Happy 11th birthday!!!
